Customer Reviews
I'm blown away by this thing -- for less than a tank of gas you get a tiny little rc helicopter which can be flown with ease for about 10 minutes. Everyone who sees it wants to play with it, and everyone is surprised at how little it costs.
Very easy to control -- hovers with no effort (look ma, no hands!). Rotates left and right quickly and proportionally, and has a trim control to keep it from rotating aimlessly. It doesn't move forward or backwards terribly quickly unless you are near the ground. Watching the gyro's do their thing while hovering is pretty neat. It also puts on a fun light show.
Seems pretty durable. Had a fair number of incidents with walls around the office without any discernable damage. A co-worker broke one of the plastic legs after a crash that I thought would have rendered it inoperable. After a mid-air collision with another mini helicopter, the blades had some minor marks/chips; this doesn't appear to have impacted how it flies.
Can be charged straight from the remote; also comes with a short usb cable you can use for charging. When finished charging, the usb plug lights up; thought that was a nice touch.
Charge time is about 30 minutes; flight time varies, but seems to average around 10 minutes. Other reviewers complained that this was too short, but I find it impressive given the size of the thing.
It is controlled via an ir remote, and requires about 3 seconds to "sync" the remote with the helicopter after turning it on. The other reviewer complaining about not getting it to sync may have been trying to use it in an area flooded by IR, because I've never had a problem getting it to sync up. The directions claim you can fly up to 3 at a time but they seem prone to interferrance when multiple are in use.
It is super small and super light, which means that a small breeze WILL shove it around (simple physics in action); I'm not sure why the other reviewer complained about this. The only way to change this behavior is to make it heavier, which would require the helecopter to be larger, which would make it more difficult to use indoors.
This has become the go to gift for all my sons friends and family in the 11 to 14 year old category. Everyone that sees it wants to fly it and so far seems to be able to without much effort. He's had his for about 3 months now, who knows how many flights, and it still runs like a champ. We had one small mis-hap that took a little bit of repair but his dad was able to tighten something quite easily and no parts have been purchased as yet. So glad to see something besides video games happening around my house. The laughter is a welcome sound! (Shhh! the neighbor boy gets his for his birthday soon. I can't wait to see how they work with two at the same time on different channels.) So fun!
