Customer Reviews
The Air Hogs Sharpshooter is a lot of fun to fly. It's a bit tough to trim, especially because the trim changes as the battery charge changes. However, once you get the trim sorted out, the Sharp Shooter flies quite well. Since it's only a 2-channel, it will never hover. By design, it always flies forward. It doesn't fly very fast, so it's great for a beginner.
Luckily, the Sharp Shooter is pretty durable. It took a full month of abuse hitting ceilings, walls, floors, couches, etc. Eventually, things on it started to break. Some can be fixed with epoxy. However, a tiny plastic bar that connects the rotor to the balance bar finally broke off. It could not be epoxied. The helicopter cannot fly without that connection.
That leads to the HUGE DOWNSIDE of owning an Air Hogs Sharp Shooter: You can NOT by replacement parts. None are sold by Spin Master (the manufacturer of Air Hogs). A different companany sells generic replacement rotor heads, but they do not work on the Sharpshooter, so don't waste your money. With no other options to fix my Sharp Shooter, I threw it away.
SHARP SHOOTER PROS
Charges quickly
Easy to learn
A LOT of fun to fly
Durable, takes a lot of hits lives to fly again
SHARP SHOOTER CONS
You can NOT buy replacement parts
It will eventually break - when it does, you might as well throw it away
As a 2-channel, it cannot hover - it must always be moving forward
It only charges from the radio which reduces power of radio batteries rather quickly
Based on the above, and on what I now know of another heli, this one is WAY overpriced!
I would not recommend that you buy this helicopter
Now, if you'd like to buy a helicopter that's even easier to fly, is 3-channel so it will hover, is gyro controlled so it's stable as hell, and you CAN BUY REPLACEMENT PARTS, may I humbly recommend the Syma S107 (also known as S107G - both are the same - both have gyro control).
Here is why I can recommend the Syma S107: After I tossed out my Air Hogs Sharp Shooter, I really missed it, but refused to buy another due to lack of replacement parts. Therefore, I bought a Syma S107 sold on Amazon. You can buy it for less than $30 with free shipping. That's about $10 less than the Air Hogs Sharp Shooter. I had read to be careful about getting "fake" S107s, but the one I got from Amazon is the REAL thing!
Flying the Syma S107 makes flying the Air Hogs Sharp Shooter I used to own seem like a dinosaur in comparison. The S107 flys dead solid perfect! I didn't even have to trim it right out of the box. IT IS A GREAT LITTLE HELICOPTER
COMPARISON OF SYMA S107 TO AIR HOGS SHARP HOOTER (AHSS)
S107 is 3-channel, AHSS is only 2-channel
S107 has a gyro, the AHSS did not
S107 gyro makes flight VERY stable - you can hover without effort
S107 will fly forward or backward. AHSS would only fly forward
S107 is more powerful with quicker reaction time than the AHSS...
S107G has the power to recover quickly from mistakes before crashing
AHSS, once it started to fall, you could not bring on the power fast enough to save it
S107G can be charged via provided USB cord from your computer, or even an AC/USB wall adapter. AHSS only charges from radio conroller.
S107G flies about 8-minutes on a charge. The AHSS flew about 5-minutes max
S107G costs about $10 LESS than the AHSS
Every S107G can be flown on three different channels. The AHSS had to be purchased by specific channel
MOST IMPORTANT: You can purchase spare parts for the S107G. AHSS has ZERO available replacement parts
Please, if you want to by an inexpensive helicopter to learn on, buy the Syma S107. You can read my full review on that helicopter by going to it on Amazon and looking at either the Red or Yellow S107 (I bought both).
The sharpshooter is a good helicopter that does actually shoot. But those are about the only pro's I can give it. It has a short helicopter battery life. You can never hit with the gun on it. The gun can only be fired while flying. It does not have good landing gear. It is only two channel so it always moves forward. It can't do quick and tight turns and there are just 2 many problems with it. I would get a syma product instead.
